League Responds to House Passage of FY26 Budget

| RI League of Cities and Towns Responds to House Passage of FY26 Budget | | | PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns offers its sincere thanks to the House of Representatives following the passage of the FY2026 budget. “The League commends the House of Representatives for its commitment to municipal fiscal priorities during this legislative session,” said East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva, president of the League of Cities and Towns. “We are especially grateful to Speaker Joe Shekarchi, House Finance Committee Chair Marvin Abney and the full committee for their collaboration and responsiveness to the needs of our local governments.” The FY26 budget addresses key fiscal priorities for League members and includes: - A fully funded education aid formula, with an increase of $59 million over the current fiscal year
- A fully funded Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) program
- Increased municipal revenue from the hotel tax
- Enhanced Distressed Communities Aid, including targeted support for the Town of Coventry
“These funding commitments will provide essential support to municipal leaders as they navigate tight budgets and continue to deliver vital services in communities across Rhode Island,” said Randy Rossi, executive director of the League of Cities and Towns. “We applaud the House for advancing a budget that respects local taxpayers and strengthens our cities and towns.
