TRACKING KEY VOTES The Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns actively engages on legislation that impacts municipalities and tracks key votes in the General Assembly, as well as laws signed by the Governor. In recent years, policymakers have enacted new mandates that have made it increasingly difficult for municipal leaders to manage their workforce and budgets. - WE SUPPORT LEGISLATION that strengthens local decision-making, fosters municipal innovation, and ensures adequate state aid for schools and communities.
- WE OPPOSE LEGISLATION that undermines local authority or creates unfunded mandates for cities and towns, especially those impacting public employees.
With Rhode Island ranking as the state with the eighth-highest property tax burden in the nation, we urge the General Assembly and the Governor to work with municipalities to reduce that burden by eliminating costly state mandates The League’s Legislative Scorecard highlights how each state Senator and Representative voted on key bills and amendments that directly impact cities, towns, and local taxpayers. We encourage all members of the General Assembly to stand with their local officials and support policies that strengthen communities, protect taxpayers, and advance the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns’ legislative priorities.
